Fallon Represents DACA Recipient in American Immigration Lawyers Association Pro Bono Case
Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Associate Ian P. Fallon successfully argued in bond court on behalf of his pro bono client, a former DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient currently in removal proceedings.
This case was referred by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Chicago Chapter, whose Pro Bono Bond Project accepted the case around the Thanksgiving holiday. As an active member of the Pro Bono Bond Project of AILA, Fallon began working diligently to try to get his client out of jail and home for the holidays.
Despite countless attempts to delay his client’s release, Fallon was able to focus the court’s attention on the relevant evidence and establish that his client was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and, therefore, should be released.
In addition to winning a difficult bond hearing, Fallon was able to locate a separate nonprofit organization that posts bonds for underprivileged families before the Immigration Court. After submitting a successful application, the client was released from jail before the new year without having to come up with the $2,000 bond.

The Chicago Chapter Pro Bono Bond Project was founded to provide legal services to detained immigrants in Chicago’s ICE district to support their release on bond. In an effort to keep families united, prevent the loss of income, and support the Midwest immigrant community, the Pro Bono Bond Project regularly seeks attorneys to take pro bono bond cases before the Chicago Immigration Court and telephonically before the Kansas City Immigration Court.
