"Sound of Summer" Empowers Women With All-Female Concert Lineup

With an all-female concert lineup, the fifth annual Sound of Summer showcase was a tribute to female empowerment in the music industry. Hosted by Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP’s Entertainment and Media Law Practice on Tuesday, July 23rd at the House of Blues Chicago, Sound of Summer raised money for charitable causes through music and featured a headlining performance by GRAMMY®-nominated artist CAM.

This year’s Sound of Summer benefitted She Is The Music (SITM), a global nonprofit championing equality, inclusivity and opportunity for women. SITM’s program work to increase the number of women working in music and transform the gender landscape of the industry.

In support of the SITM’s mission, Sound of Summer featured CAM, one of country’s fieriest artists and a passionate supporter of women through her music and on-stage storytelling. Preceding CAM in concert were upcoming female artists Ness Heads, followed by Zealyn. In addition, Sound of Summer hired women for key roles at every level of the event – both front of house and back of house – including sound, lighting and merchandise sales. Female college students from The Recording Academy’s GRAMMY U also shadowed House of Blues’ recording industry professionals for an “out of classroom” perspective on the performance process.

Thanks to a successful ticketed raffle, Sound of Summer raised thousands of dollars for She Is The Music. Raffle prize donors included C3 Presents, WME, 101WKQX, Lettuce Entertain You, iO Theatre, Zanie’s Comedy Club, KOVAL Distillery, Lagunitas, Butch McGuire’s, Pure Barre, Kendra Scott, Designs by Emmie, Chicago Athletic Clubs, Laugh Out Loud, Comedy Sportz Chicago, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, and House of Blues.

Sound of Summer also thanks its sponsors for this year’s event, including Billboard Magazine, Symphonic Distribution, Virgin Hotels Chicago, CuraLinc Healthcare, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Hello Water, 12 Line Studio, and One Point Wealth Management Group.
